William and his wife, Danielle, moved to Sumner County with their four children in 1996. Both graduated with bachelor’s degrees in education. William went on to earn a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Florida while serving as a teacher. His role in school administration led them to Tennessee where he served as a headmaster for twenty-one years. During this time, he earned his law degree from the Nashville School of Law. In 2017 he transitioned to Welch College where he serves as a dean and teaches graduate students.
William and Danielle also brought a small publishing company to Tennessee when they relocated over twenty-five years ago. In addition, William and his oldest son started a real estate investment company. William is actively involved in the business community and serves on several local boards including Living Sent Ministries and Improve Hendersonville. William served three years as Chair of the Freedom Festival raising money to go directly into classrooms through teacher grants.
The Slater children are grown with families of their own. Michelle and her husband, Jonathan, have five children and live in Appomattox, VA where Jonathan serves as a pastor. Danny and his wife, Nicole, have two children and live near Knoxville where Danny continues to build the real estate business. William and Danielle lost their youngest son, Jay, in 2005. Carol lives near Washington, DC where she teaches. The most exciting times of the year are when the family gets together here, there, or wherever possible.
